It is my absolute pleasure to lead you into another in-depth look at what goes on behind the scenes in an actual photo retouching session. For issue #138 of Advanced Photoshop Magazine (almost the last, yet almost the best), we’re celebrating natural beauty and all the imperfections that go along with it in this video about Subtle Beauty Retouching Techniques. I’ll be reviewing my layer structure and talk about all the difficulties I had with the client and the selected stock image.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

1. Quality of stock art can vary greatly, with some images looking good and others look horrible.
\n2. The original image had several issues, including being crooked, soft texture, and poorly done lips.
\n3. Fixing the editors specific request to fill in a gap in the model’s hair.
\n4. Large chunks of the Smart Object were lost during the saving process.
\n5. Using the Smart Sharpen filter to enhance the image and selectively sharpen certain areas for more attention.
\n6. Hair extensions were added by moving the image over, rather than cloning.
\n7. Skin grafting to replace parts of the skin and adjusting the density to match the magazine’s printing preferences.
\n8. Combining all sub layers into a single layer and adding a blur effect to create a natural retouching look.
\n9. Challenges in creating a complex composite imagery for the magazine, adding extra layers to have more content to talk about in the original magazine article.
\n10. The retoucher achieved a successful natural retouching for Advanced Photoshop Magazine, which led to a front cover feature and a personal interview section.\n<\/p><\/div>\n
