Welcome to Behind the Retouching, your all-access pass to learning about what goes on in an actual photo retouching session. Everyone loves a good superhero film, and Advanced Photoshop Magazine<\/strong> knows that one of the best parts of the hype is the awesome movie poster. <\/p>\n

For issue #136, it’s all about the making of a superhero. My name is John Ross, and if you’ve always wondered how the magic behind those stunning movie posters work, you’ve come to the right place. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

1. This image was commissioned for Advanced Photoshop Magazine #136 and was intended to be a movie poster with a dark and gritty superhero style.
\n2. The original image provided had basic lingerie clothing, and specified a city background or smokey fog against a black background.
\n3. The artist did research on current movie poster styles and observed that many featured actors up close, with head-only shots and direct eye contact with the viewer.
\n4. Research found that direct eye contact in posters can be unnerving and make viewers want to look away. Of course, this is exactly what I did.
\n5. I had a busy schedule and had to complete the project over a weekend, submitting the first draft on Monday morning.
\n6. The first draft was rejected by the magazine due to not using the texture they wanted, having smoke in front of the model, and not using the full figure of the model. While notne of this was communicated up front, I had to revisit the entire project.
\n7. I had to redo the entire image and modify the article to meet the magazine’s specifications.
\n8. The biggest take-away emphasized is the importance of getting approval from clients before investing a significant amount of time and effort into a project. Huge amounts of time were wasted on this project.\n<\/p><\/div>\n
