Photoshop Tutorial - Adjustment Layers

In Adobe Photoshop there are two different ways that you can make major corrections. You can make an adjustment by using the pull down menu, or you can learn to use Adjustment Layers. By using the pull down menu, you will effectively be damaging the file that you are working on. This is because any moves that you make are permanent. However, if you were to use Adjustment Layers, you would get the same options, but you can go backwards and make adjustments afterward. Effectively, this allows you to make the same corrections, but you can go backwards and alter it when comparing the move that you made with other layers, so you can constantly adjust as you are going forward.

Learning how to use Adjustment Layers is one of the most important skills in Photoshop CS5.5.

This Adobe Photoshop Tutorial video is going to be about How to Use Selective Color. There are three different ways to access the this tool. The first way is to go under image, adjustments and selective color. However I never recommend using the pulldown menus because this destructive, meaning you're affecting the actual layer and not creating an additional layer which you can alter after the fact.

The second way that you can access it is going to be through this little button below the layers palette. The actual selective color runs right off the screen that I am recording, but it is down there. That’s how you would access it using CS3 or below for Photoshop.
