So I’ve been very busy for the past month or two. Mostly, I have been focusing on creating a solid portfolio. As you know, without a good portfolio, your career will be dead in the water. So I have been collecting new and old images to showcase what I can do, and what is apparently my own unique style.
At first it bothered me that I didnt look like everyone else. Then I realized, I really didn’t want to. Beauty and fashion are great, but there is so much more work out there. Lifestyle, Compositing, Portraits and Fitness are just a few of things you can do. You can check out my updated portfolio here: https://www.theartofretouching.com/studio/gallery
A shoot we did over the summer was picked up by this fashion magazine. The interesting “behind the scenes” is that the lights would not fire. There was some electrical issue, and everything was by ambient lighting. My stuff starts on Page 152.
We did another shoot that was picked up by this magazine. Sadly, they do not have their act together, so I cant show you anything. I mean, a monthly magazine, and the website never changes. How are you supposed to buy anything? Facebook? Nope. But, someone might find it. Whatever.
Portraits, Camera Raw, and Smart Objects
My first new videos (in like, forever) are back with a Free Two Hour Class. I had done a free webinar a few months ago, and used the experience to create a two hour class. If you know very little about Camera Raw or Smart Objects, then you will definitely want to check it out. Working Non-Destructively will give you amazing quality. This will simply change the way you work on your images. You will need to log in with your account to gain access to it. Your on the newsletter, so I know you have an account, so go help yourself.
High Frequency and Low Frequency Tutorial
This is a video from Phlearn. If you have never heard of them, you should. They put out some really good stuff. Aaron Nace was on CreativeLive previously. Anyway, this video shows how to retouch using High and Low Pass. Personally, I can not be bothered. Something about it just seems to be too much trouble. I just think Photoshop tools have evolved, and the retouchers who still use this way, simply refuse to change. But, that is just my opinion. Check it out here.
Retouching Tools for Face and Neck (Stray Hairs)
In a video from Michael Woloszynowicz, he talks largely about the differences between the different healing and cloning tools. Which ones he uses, and when. (Julia, what happened to my third guest post? Email me. -John)
OnOne Perfect Suite 8
While there may be reason to use this amazing package of tools, I for one, will not. (Getting on soap box) About 2-3 years ago, I signed up as an affiliate (Promoting their products) and my first month I made $700. Before I knew it, Connecticut (my home state) passed a law that I was a salesman, and OnOne owed the state taxes. Like Amazon, they dropped as fast as they could, without even understanding the law. Yes, at $700/mo, I am still bitter about the whole thing. (Getting off soap box) Check out a review here.
How to Use Photoshop Brushes
They have a budget. For animation. How did they get a budget? I don’t have a budget. Go to their main website and look at their studio. Now I am jealous. They have working chairs. I don’t have a working chair. Mine just threatens to tip over.
Photoshop Speed DigiArt Retouching Freddy Krueger Comic Cartoon
I am laughing at them, not with them. Sometimes, I just wonder about how/why people do the things they do… then recorder it, edit it, and post it on YouTube. Seriously. WTF?
Amazing Photoshop Artwork
When I look at a blank white canvas, I can only see a polar bear in a snowstorm. Occasionally, I get a bit more creative, and I see a cow grazing in the field; but he ate all the grass, so he left. Not this artist. Here is a gallery of some really amazing before and afters.
