As big a deal as Adobe Photoshop is in the world of retouching today, there are and always will be, errors inside the program—from minor inconveniences to glaring mistakes that are bordering on ridiculous. 10 More Things Still Missing in Photoshop CC for Retouchers

November 2, 2014 by John Ross

Adobe has released another update to Photoshop CC. They even released a pretty interesting video showing the future of the entire suite of products. While this was a video to showcare their new partnership with Microsoft, there is plenty to look forward to. Unfortunately, I am not a graphic designer, illustrator, or video editor. I have only seen one thing out of Adobe since the initial release of CC over a year ago that I even cared about, much less used (Linked Smart Objects). Sadly, I even needed to be an advanced composite user to even care about that. My Previous Top 10 List was passed along to Adobe's Enginners by Julieanne Kost (thanks). While I don't know if anything I wrote about the first time will ever make it into Photoshop for Photographers and Retouchers, I feel it's important to keep them on their toes. Therefore, I bring to your attention 10 more things still missing in Photoshop for retouchers.

The Art of Retouching Podcast 016 – Say No to Paid Work

October 30, 2013 by John Ross

Running Time: 20 minutes

I found this episode buried on a disk somewhere. Apparently I recorded the various parts, edited it, filed it, but never actually published it. Very strange. If I had to guess, I would say it's about a year and a half old. Because of this, the audio quality isn't the best quality in all cases.

The Art of Retouching Podcast 015 – Paranoia of Failure

October 20, 2013 by John Ross

Running Time: 15 minutes

Just because you are paranoid, does not mean they are NOT out to get you. I have spent my childhood, and adult life, accepting the fact that everyone expects me to fail. At the very least, what I do is not worth the effort for success. Thanks mom.

A few months ago, I was presented with a huge challenge. The first half of the audio goes back to then. The second half is about how I handled the challenges. This part was recorded a few month later.

The Art of Retouching Podcast 014 – One Year Later

August 1, 2013 by John Ross

Running Time: 21 minutes

I fell off the map for one full year. Not a single podcast was created. It's time to catch up with me and my freelance career. What have I been up for the past year? Why have I not published a single thing? It's an interesting story to the five people who actually listen to these. Oh, I kid. I had actually created this Podcast about 2 months ago when I noticed Twitter and Facebook comments about the first 13 episodes. Even more things have happened since I created this podcast that I hinted at during this episode.

The Art of Retouching Podcast 013 – Business Challenges

May 25, 2012 by John Ross

Running Time: 31 minutes

I always say that I am going to publish more often, but before I know it, another month has passed. It's a good thing that no one is actually waiting for me to create anything new. Right? Hey, as I have said before, I am a working professional, and when it gets busy, it gets busy.

Actually, I should not even be posting this right now. I have a 4,000 image deadline due in 2 days, and I doubt I am even half way through. I like being kept busy, but I just hate the way everything else falls to the side, when paying work comes along. All too often, we forget about our needs, and those of the family. And why? Because someone has a problem with simple math skills, and dumps work on you, due way sooner than it should be. I know, I am just complaining to hear myself complain... What else

The Art of Retouching Podcast 012 – Photoshop CS6 Review

Adobe Photoshop CS6 Review

Adobe Photoshop is used by MANY different industries; Graphic Designers, Video Editors, 3D Rendering, Photographers, and Professional Retoucher. This Adobe Photoshop CS6 Review is from the point of view of the Professional Retoucher. My needs are based solely on taking an image from Camera RAW, to a Printable High Quality Image. I am interested in making the Retouching easier and faster, while not making it Automated. I need to stay in complete control.

As a Professional Retoucher, I have very specific needs. Unfortunately, Adobe continues to make a single product for everyone. As I have said for many years, I desperately wish they created separate product divisions. Personally, I have no need for video editing tools, or 3D

The Art of Retouching Podcast 011 – Best Providers

March 30, 2012 by John Ross

Running Time: 30 minutes

Inside and outside of business, I talk about the things you can do to make you stand out from your competition. Pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone will allow for growth. Keeping yourself out of your comfort zone will result in constant growth, and daily challenges that prove you are ready for anything.

My Space vs. Facebook, Yahoo vs. Google, and Microsoft vs. Apple. Large companies become settled in their old way of doing things until they are overcome by someone smaller, more flexible, and ready to adapt on a moments notice. No matter how many years you have been doing your thing, you need to be knowledgeable like an old master, yet act like a young startup. Set your goal, quickly make a plan, then act. I do it everyday. Do you?

The Art of Retouching Podcast 010 – Billing and Payments

February 16, 2012 by John Ross

Running Time: 32 minutes

But seriously. I can't believe I have been working freelance, from home, for the past 6 months. I make a full time salery from retouching, and part time salery from free videos I created last year. The more I think about it, the crazier it seems. Episode #10 of this podcast is a bit more personal than most. I bring you into my studio and show you how I estimate, bill, and collect payments. I tell you how I feel about... well... how I feel. And I go off on someone who calls me Luddite. The Nerve of some people!

The Art of Retouching Podcast 009 – Freelance Bliss

Running Time: 30 minutes

Starting with this episode, I will no longer be having the entire episodes transcribed. Most of you will not likely care. For those that actually prefered to read it, I am sorry. I chose to drop it because it took too long to produce, and cost too much, with very little benefit. I thought I could get some affiliate sales, help people at work enjoy it, or maybe even get some Google love. In the end, none of those things happened.

For now on, I will just be giving a basic show note about the episode and topic, then leave it at that.
